Bobby Hunt, also an accomplished Pianist who first began playing at the age of three.
Bobby credits his mother for her insistence that he learn to read music. Consequently, this
resulted in formal training from grade school through high school.
Merced, California
located in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley is where it all began for Bobby.
All his musical roots start there.
Jazz, Blues and Rock took hold which lead to the Hammond B3 Organ.
Bobby’s recording career first began at the age of fourteen with a local hometown
band called the Merced Blue Notes. The Merced Blue Notes recorded for
various record labels, most notably Galaxy Records. Galaxy Records is a subsidiary
of Fantasy records which is located in Northern California. The Merced Blue Notes
also worked with many Producers on various recording projects. Sonny Bono,
Mark Gordon, H.B. Barnum and the Fuquas in Detroit were among the most recognizable members
of this group.
During this time period Lee Michaels, another local musician,
who later
recorded the hit "Do you know what I mean?"
purchased a Hammond B3. Bobby and Lee taught themselves to play this instrument
in Bobby’s living room. This experience lead Bobby to purchase his first Hammond B3
and make a career move to Los Angeles.
Bobby's unique style with the Hammond B3
influenced other recognizable musicians in jazz
and rock music genres.
The Hammond B3 is a much more popular instrument
thanks to Bobby's early contributions.
Upon arriving in Los Angeles Bobby worked with guitarists such as Roy Gaines and many others.
It was at this time that Bobby decided to form his first Jazz Organ Trio.
While working with his trio Bobby was offered a position with a hot local
R&B horn band called The Sevens Souls.
The Seven Souls, with Bob Welch very quickly,
became the toast of the local music scene. Eventually,The Seven Souls toured
Europe and released recordings on the French label Barclay Records.
After two extensive European tours The Seven Souls disbanded and
Bobby formed Head West.
Head West was a power organ trio with
Bob Welch on guitar. The music was a blend of very heavy
funk and rock with jazz influences.
Head West also toured Europe and recorded for
AZ records of France.
The records sold quite well and the band continued to tour Europe
and resided in France for 2 years.
Upon returning to Los Angeles Bobby was invited by Bob Welch
to work with Fleetwood Mac. Following these tours Bobby
resumed working with his organ trio.
Also, Bobby has worked extensively on many recording sessions
and occasionally scored low-budget B films.
Presently, Bobby is performing with his group,
Bobby Hunt & Friends.
